From day dot I’ve always been an extremely curious and inquisitive boy. My parents (my father especially) almost shot me for the amount of questions I asked. The curiosity never stopped, from my days getting lost in my backyard in Tasmania, traversing the globe searching something different to what i knew, trying to find who I was, chasing a girl or trying to get the best photo…. whatever it was… i’ve always been curious as to what is out there.
This has never been more evident than my recent trip along the Adriatic coast.
Now i hate tourists although I’m often a tourist, i don’t act like one.
I endeavour to learn at least the polite words in the native language, and treat the locals with the same respect that we would treat people in Australia.
NOW. There is an exception to that rule. Their children. Tourist’s children are some of the most interesting people to watch. Especially when they are seeing a foreign culture. To watch their eyes go wide open, you can almost hear their little brains ticking over. The millions of questions all banking up. It’s pretty amazing. It’s like if you have ever watched a kitten walk on grass for the first time, or do anything for the first time.
It’s one of life’s little things that makes me smile.
The other is Croatian Tomatoes. Frickin amazing.
